The holiday season starts in April and finishes at the end of October. If you don’t mind the odd spot of rain then April is a good month to go as the resorts are generally quieter. If you want guaranteed warm temperatures and no rain, then May and June are the best months to go. July and August are not only the hottest but this is also peak season so all the resorts will be bustling with holidaymakers. With the peak season over, September and October offer a temperate climate, quiet resorts and the perfect time for walkers to explore the mountains and gorges. Is the water safe to drink? Staying safe in Crete? Mosquitoes are a problem in Crete during the summer months and are especially attracted to areas where there is fresh water. Fortunately they don’t carry any harmful diseases; however it doesn’t make their bite any less irritating. Keeping covered will certainly help but it’s also worth packing some repellent cream or spray. If you do get bitten by a mosquito you can use a sting relief cream to sooth the itching.
